Bala review

Ayushmann Khurrana is already known for his depiction of an ordinary man dealing with a dilemma. Bala entertains on another human problem of baldness with humor and fun. The movie is great combination of acting, direction, and writing which probably makes it one of the best movies of the year 2019.

The story begins with schoolboy Balmukund, the Shah Rukh khan of the school with wavy hair who attracts everyone with his mimicry skills. Popular especially amongst girls, Bala is so proud of his good looks and hair that he never hesitated to make fun of his teachers and classmates in front of the entire school.

Bala’s Dilemma:

Pride Bala has now lost his self-confidence due to his balding hair. His girlfriend since school time leaves him. In search of a new partner, Bala wants his pride back and now starts the struggle. Putting a mixture of buffalo’s dung and bull’s semen Bala tries several other remedies but ends up without success. During the entire span of his struggle, he has strong support from his family.

Bala tries many approaches in growing hair but ends up with no success. Finally, he deals with the problem by fixing a hair patch gifted by his father. And then begins the love story between Bala and Pari The small town TikTok star and the model of fairness cream. Impressed with Bala’s mimicry and entertainment skills both get married. Moving forward the movie will drive you to many twists and laughter.

The dark-complexioned lawyer:

Bhumi Pednekar plays as Latika the dark-skinned lawyer. Latika is a childhood friend of Bala and confident in her skin and never compromises on her principle. Seema Pahwa plays as Latika’s aunt trying her best on getting a guy for Latika. Javeed Jaaferi, Abhishek Banerjee and Saurabh Shukla had played their roles with unique characters. There are five tracks in Bala composed by Sachin-Jigar. Song alignment is proper and well fits the story.

Comparison with Ujda Chaman:

Ujda Chaman a comedy-drama starring Starring Sunny Singh, Maanvi Gagroo, Saurabh Shukla, Karishma Sharma, and Aishwarya Sakhuja came up with a similar subject. In both, the film’s protagonist suffers from premature balding, heartbreaks and employs different methods to grow hair but Bala emerges as the winner in the competition.

Ayushmann’s remarkable contribution to Bollywood movies proves why he is the recipient of several awards including the National film award. Bala is yet another blockbuster. Certainly, Bala is a brilliant film but the climax could have been better. The movie loses a few stars here.

Finally, from a societal point of view, the clever writing by Niren Bhatt conveys a message to “Love yourself and accept what life gives you being Happy”.
